Grasshopper

Oil on 6"x6" gallery wrapped canvas.  This is another of the little bird paintings in the Museum of East Texas exhibition (for more information, call 936-639-4434).  This little Eastern Phoebe is holding a grasshopper in its beak.  I loved painting these birds!  It was fun and challenging painting the 1 1/2" deep sides of these canvases.   

Orange Moth

SO MANY FLOWERS--6"x6" oil on gallery wrapped canvas.  I've been painting for a show at the Museum of East Texas in Lufkin, TX  (for more information, call 936-639-4434).  It is a four-person show titled Last Week I Dreamed I went to Lilliput (from Gulliver's Travels).  All of my paintings are of birds.  This is a female Ruby Throated Hummingbird.

A Rufous Easter

A Rufous Easter--9x12 oil on canvas.  I guess you thought I had dropped off the face of the earth...nope.  I've just been very busy and haven't had much time to paint.  Its like being without water and gasping for breath...not being able to paint every day.  Painting is what I've always wanted to do, at least since I was 16, and that was a long time ago. 

There has been an adult male Rufous hummingbird at our house since Christmas.  I believe Dec. 26 was the first day we saw him at the feeder.  This is the first time I've ever seen a hummingbird here in East Texas in the winter, but Rufous  has been here all winter.  I've taken numerous pictures of him and painted this for a sale on Palm Sunday at the Museum of East Texas.  I wanted to do something a little Easterish, but not too Easterish...  So, I decided on the plain eggs in a basket.

Splendor

Oil on canvas, 32"x40".  The rising sun spread a warm glow over the whole landscape.  I painted this from a photo I took this past spring. 

Clear Water

Oil on canas, 36"x48".  This is not a new painting, but one I haven't posted.  I painted this from a photo my son took near Austin.  What caught my eye in this scene is the clear swirling water coming around the big rocks and over the small rocks on the bottom of the stream.

Veila's Back Yard

6"x8" oil on canvas on panel, plein air painting. About a week ago I visited my friend, Veila, at her home in north Texas.  It's about a 7 hour drive from my home in east Texas.  We had a great time painting and visiting.

Grazing

9"x12" oil on canvas on panel plein air painting: I also did this one at my dad's farm last week. It's such a peaceful, beautiful place. This view is from the back of the house down the hill toward the pond, the opposite direction from the road.

Afternoon View

9"x12" oil on canvas on panel plein air painting: I went to my dad's farm in central Texas last week and painted this one afternnoon from the deck of the house. The horizontal row of trees and bushes is along a fence beside the road. From this view on the hill, you can't see the road. This huge old oak tree is beside the driveway which goes down to the road. The weather was beautiful and it was so nice to be able to paint en plain air.

I've been very busy painting for a new Natural History Museum that will open in August. It is exciting and lots of fun! I'll post some pictures later.

Untitled

32"x40" oil on canvas. I painted this about a year ago. It is a combination of places. What inspired me to paint this is the shape of the trees on the right side. I used several photos I took at diffenent places and put them toghether.

Family Group

8x10 oil on panel. I just finished this little painting. I began it a few weeks ago as a demo while teaching a painting class at the Museum. I looked out the window and saw this lone group of trees after most of the area had been cleared to build a parking lot. I'm glad this little family group was left.

Luscious

Oil on canvas on panel, 4x6. A friend brought me some strawberries, so I had to paint them before I ate any of them. I thought I'd use a palette knife and squint a lot and here's the result.

Super Moon

Morning Drink

16x20 oil on canvas. I painted this from a photo I took at my dad's farm. I love to go there and I have done many paintings there and from pictures I've taken there. It's just a beautiful, peaceful place that has so many wonderful memories.

March Beauty

Plein air, 9x12 oil on panel. This is a beautiful day! It started out cloudy and I was afraid my plein air painting trip to SFA University's arboretum would be a wash out. But I met my friend, Karen Lostrocco there and the sun came out and we painted most of the afternoon. The dogwood and azaleas and many other trees and flowers are blooming and it is a beautiful place. It was almost 80 degrees--feels like spring.

Apple on Top

6x6 oil on panel. This is my entry into the Daily Paintworks Challenge. It was really fun to do and a learning experience.

Trumpet Player

Oil on canvas, 14x18. I finally finished this painting. I used a photo I took in August of a mariachi band.

Across the Harbor

Plein air, 9x12, oil on canvas on panel. This is another painting I did on the Port Aransas paint out. It is very interesting painting shrimp boats. We saw these across the harbor from where we were set up in Aransas Pass.

Cloudy Day Sunset

Plein air, 9x12, oil on canvas on panel. This is the first painting I did when I went to Port Aransas on a paint out with the Outdoor Painters Society in November. The day was cloudy and very windy. It was difficult to keep everything from blowing away. We found a windbreak and painted in Aransas Pass that afternoon.

Reflection of Tradition

Oil on canvas, 16"x20". Here is another painting that's in my show at the Museum of East Texas (936) 639-4434. I painted this from a photo I took in Illinois. Last summer, I took my dad and went to Woodstock, Illinois, for my niece's wedding. Woodstock is about an hour northwest of Chicago. On our way home, in central Illinois, it had been raining and was just beginning to clear from the left. You can still see the rain on the right side of the picture.

Palm Shadows

Oil on panel, 12"x9", Plein Air painting. We went to the Rio Grande Valley to visit my sister-in-law for New Years. This is a painting I did about a block from her house in La Feria. I liked the design of the shadows on the side of the building, so I set up my easel and painted this. It was a beautiful, sunny day about 80 degrees.

Addie Jean

This painting was commissioned for a Christmas gift, so I couldn't post it until now. I was painting on the dock at Rockport in November with a friend. We were with the Outdoor Painters Society at a paint out in Port Aransas when I received this commission. Addie Jean is the name of the boat.

I hope all of you had a wonderful and blessed Christmas! I've been very busy getting ready for my museum show and, then, getting ready for Christmas. Now that the show has opened and Christmas is over, maybe I can get back to painting every day. I didn't post very often the past few months because I was mostly painting for my show and I didn't want to post the paintings until the show had opened.

We had an elegant opening at the Gala on Dec. 11 at the Museum of East Texas. It is a 4-person show. I am planning to post some of my paintings that are in the show. This is one of them.
