Several mornings while my mother was in the hospital, a carnation would be on her breakfast tray. We brought them home and they're still pretty. Carnations last a long time.

I really like this piece. I wish I had the art vocab to explain why. There is something about the easy, sketchy quality that feels just right, and the values on the red carnation make it look positively velvety.
