July Morning

July Morning, plein air, oil on canvas on panel, 12 x 9 inches.  This is another park painting, but I used "artistic license" to add water where there was no water.  It was a beautiful morning to be painting in the Grace Dunn Richardson Park.

Desert Willow at Brandon Park

Desert Willow at Brandon Park, plein air, 8x10 inches, oil on panel.  It was a beautiful spring morning at Brandon Park!    This tree with the pink blossoms caught my eye, and I had to paint it.

The Path

The Path, plein air, palette knife painting, oil on panel, 5 x 7 inches.  I was so mesmerized by the beauty of the morning that I painted a second scene in Herty Park.  There was no one else around except for one man who walked on that path while we painted.  It was such a pleasant place.

Watercolor Sketches

Morning Sunlight--watercolor & ink sketch, 5x8.  These are in my sketchbook from our recent visit to my dad's farm.  I like to sketch with watercolors--they're quick and fun. I liked the way the shadowy foreground contrasted with the bright morning sunlight on the distant pasture.
Deer--watercolor & ink sketch, 5x8.  One evening, these 2 deer, casting deep shadows, came down to the pond for a drink.

SOLD Cows Grazing--watercolor & ink sketch, 5x8.  These cows aren't really purple; they're black, but in the evening light, they looked purple.  There has been a lot of rain this summer, and the grass is tall and plentiful.

Veila's Back Yard

6"x8" oil on canvas on panel, plein air painting. About a week ago I visited my friend, Veila, at her home in north Texas.  It's about a 7 hour drive from my home in east Texas.  We had a great time painting and visiting.

Grazing

9"x12" oil on canvas on panel plein air painting: I also did this one at my dad's farm last week. It's such a peaceful, beautiful place. This view is from the back of the house down the hill toward the pond, the opposite direction from the road.

Afternoon View

9"x12" oil on canvas on panel plein air painting: I went to my dad's farm in central Texas last week and painted this one afternnoon from the deck of the house. The horizontal row of trees and bushes is along a fence beside the road. From this view on the hill, you can't see the road. This huge old oak tree is beside the driveway which goes down to the road. The weather was beautiful and it was so nice to be able to paint en plain air.

GARAGE SALE

Plein Air 6x8 oil on canvas on panel. Our neighborhood had garage sales this weekend and I enjoyed painting in between shoppers. What caught my attention here was the contrast of the bright light outside the garage and the cool shade inside. It was a very pleasant day. The weather here in Texas has cooled off enough to be comfortable in the shade. Thank goodness, the 100 degree days are over for a while!

WAXAHACHIE COURTHOUSE

9x12 Plein Air oil on canvas on panel. This is another one of the paintings I did last week at the Paint Historic Waxahachie paint out. It was so HOT (close to 100) and the light was so bright!!! I was standing partially in the shade, but it was a challenge getting this finished.

Paint Historic Waxahachie

I'll be leaving at 6:00 AM tomorrow to drive to Waxahachie, Texas , near Dallas, for the paint out there. It's about 3 hours from here. I'm really looking forward to it. I will be home late on Sunday, the 6th, with plein air paintings to post.

BLUEBIRD HOUSE oil on board, 6x4

Plein air-- I sat on the swing on my front porch this morning to paint this view of our bluebird house. We usually have bluebirds raising young at least once each season, sometimes twice. The weather is perfect, about 70 and mostly sunny. What a beautiful day to be able to paint!

WINTER SUNSHINE oil on panel, 4"x6"

Today is a beautiful day! It started out with a thick fog, but it lifted pretty fast. It lifted before I could get outside to paint, and there was just a little fog left in the distance when I painted this en plein air. I wanted to capture the cold, crisp morning with the warm sunshine.

EVENING SHADOWS 8x10 oil on canvas on board

Back home and then to my dad's farm in central Texas for Thanksgiving, I painted this Wednesday evening as the sun was setting. I was looking up the hill toward the house which is out of view on the right. Yes, it is a beautiful place.

BLUFFS AND WATER 6x8 oil on canvas on board

Same location on the Basse Ranch, but looking the opposite direction toward the white bluffs above the stream.

RIPPLING WATER 12x16 oil on cavas on board

This is also the Basse Ranch near Fredericksburg. This stream rippled across rocks and down the little waterfall as it made its way across the ranch. It was heaven to stand here and paint this beautiful place and listen to the rippling water

BASSE RANCH ABOVE THE CREEK 8x10 oil

This is the view from the hill above the creek on the beautiful Basse Ranch where 40 OPA members painted all day. It was cool and mostly sunny.

RAIN COMING 6x8 oil on canvas on board

I did this one evening as the sun was setting and the sky began looking stormy. It started to rain about midnight and rained most of the next day. On the rainy day we visited several art galleries in Fredericksburg.

TOWARD BOERNE 8x10 oil on canvas on board

I attended an OPA (Oil Painters of America) Paint Out last week in Fredericksburg, in the Texas Hill Country. I borrowed my dad's RV and had a wonderful time painting and taking photos for 5 days around the area. I got to meet many oil painters and see some beautiful country. These are all plein air paintings.
